Hi
Yesterday I Updated the firmware to 1.1.0.1.19053-9ac0630 on my Boxee Box.
I was happy to notice that indic-Unicode characters are now displayed, but the rendering is incorrect. I created a few folders in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam as a test. Vowel signs do not appear in the correct positions. Subtitles also have the same issue. However the browser displays indic-unicode correctly. Websites that have specified a Unicode font in it's CSS via the @font tag does display correctly

Most Indic-Unicode languages have vowel signs that preceed the consonants for example in Malayalam the word "Keralam" is written as " ക+േ+ള+ം This should read as കേരളം The second character is a vowel sign that should appear as the first character in the word. If the OS supports indic-unicode rendering it would display correctly, iOS, Linux, Windows and Mac displays this correctly (provided you have a font that displays the character)

What I noticed is that the Boxee currently has a Unicode Font that includes most Indian Language glyph sets. However the rendering is wrong. You could try to create some words as folders or filenames in boxee and try them out.


കേരളം, സൌരയുധം, സ്വാഗതം, മുന്ത്രണം, വർണ്ണം etc.
If you are unable to see the above text on your OS please install the following font (http://varamozhi.sourceforge.net/fonts/AnjaliOldLipi-0.730.ttf)
