Darci, this log is when you forced rescan the files, it shows us nothing regarding why these files wasn't resolved properly.
can you please try to remove and re-add the file source with DEBUG enabled so we can see the client request for the server?
BTW, there is an open ticket regarding rescan of unidentified files which are not re-resolved once you rescan the source BOXEE-9602

>>Darci, this log is when you forced rescan the files, it shows us nothing regarding why these files wasn't resolved properly.
Correct, I've always assumed that Boxee should (and would) try to resolve unidentified files upon subsequent rescans.
So 9602 is an improvement and not a bug? How is not resolving previously unresolved files not a bug? Blargh.
I'll think about rescanning from scratch but it's getting tiresome; see http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-9092 where the initial scan failures may be related to SMB connection issues (and the tail end of http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-7777 where Eli indicates there is a known SMB connection timeout bug).

sorry for the inconvenience, but this is an improvement due to the fact that this was never implemented, therefor is the manual identify feature.
what you describe is still an issue we should address to if this is reproducible.
also, this might be related to the smb issue but it's an assumption, we still need to reproduce it and verify what is causing this issue and fix it as well.

That's an interesting tidbit but for a media *server* that's not ideal. I have several media clients of various and sundry types accessing those files and prefer the way things are organized for everything involved...

Okay... here we go.
I removed the source, turned on debug, rebooted the box, and re-added the source around 19:00.
After about 40 minutes or so, the bottom of the File Sources screen had:
Scanning:
Resolving:
And the Folder entry had:
Identifying
628 files found. 169 unidentified.
If you check the logfile boxee.1305253278.2692.tar.bz2, you'll see that entries actually stopped around 19:21
At this point (around 20:00), the Box doesn't appear to be doing anything so I rebooted it. See the next two log files: boxee.1305255809.2242.tar.bz2 and boxee.1305256013.2435.tar.bz2
After the reboot, it now says:
Identifying
628 files found. 173 unidentified.
(Four TV episodes were added to CurrentTV this evening). I'll let it run overnight as-is and post another log later.
About to add attachments now, log files as well as two screenshots of (SOME of the) shows in the unidentified list. All files are stored in this format:
\\server\CurrentTV\TVSHOW\SEASON X\TV Show.sXXeXX.mkv, e.g the file White Collar.S02E13.mkv is in:
\\server\CurrentTV\White Collar\Season 2\

Darci, Thanks for the update and the logs,
we cannot find what is causing this issue and we are unable to reproduce this issue.
can you try removing this source and add only a specific folder which contains episodes that are not identified (i.e white collar or vampire diaries)? also make sure there are no zip/rar files in that folder.

Excellent idea! I actually added quite a few TV shows folders, including Vampire Diaries and White Collar and I believe (after a quick glance) that not one of the shows I added resolved all episodes.
I'm attaching a zip file screen shots of the File Sources screen of all the added show folders and their status (Scanning and Resolving both report "Idle" at this point) and screen shots of the identified files and of course the log files.
Have fun, I really hope this helps!
Cheers,
D

from my investigation of the log in ShowsWontResolve.zip 15/May/11 1:12 PM
it seems like a client issue and not a server issue.
checking the log for Bones.S06E16 which appears at the unidentified files.
you can see that the server returned proper information and the client state that the file is resolved and added to the client media library database.

Okay, I'll attach the logs once Boxee is done but so far after removing and re-adding \\server\videos\tv archive, there are a bunch of unidentified videos:
Highlander: almost all of S02Exx, a goodly amount of S03Exx, about half of 4xEE, and two of 6xEE (implied filename format).
And then
spooks.610
journeyman.s01e01
For a total of 42 unidentified videos from this source.
(But better this time I think...)

thanks! darci , your log (boxee.1309309373.3056.tar.bz2 28/Jun/11 9:30 PM) is very helpful
now that we trace more information, we can see that the server returned 503 error for a proper request which I tested now and it works in the browser.
* resolving request to the server, returned error 503.
* ping request timeout
for example, when resolving Highlander.s02e05
17:51:36.0684 T:3006315408 M:501657600 DEBUG: Boxee: 29/06/11 00:51:36.6842#ERROR#bxcurl.cpp:648(HttpHEAD)#curl_easy_perform failed (Resolving host timed out: 7.ping.boxee.tv)!

So, this is still trouble-some. Occasionally, I'll have a spat of TV episodes over some time period that don't get identified automatically after being added to my Local Sources and scanned by Boxee. Or they'll be identified but be missing the episode title and synopsis. Any hope for a reasonable "rescan" option anytime soon so I don't have to hunt down problems and manually identify them individually?

Here's another update, after doing a factory reset for v1.5 Boxee identified 99.9% of my local content however, there are errors apparently, for example, the current season of Leverage, at least two episodes have the wrong title ("Cross My Heart" and "Girls Night Out") that can't be fixed by manually re-identifying these items or by forcing a rescan.

I have the same problem i have shows that are unidentified do to spelling mistakes ect. if i correct them and rescan they stay unidentified the only way i have found to fix this is to clear media information and clear old thumbnails then rescan from scratch.
I have tried this dozens of times including trying to put an NFO for proper identification and force rescan still will remain unidentified till you clear media information.
