Description
I'll describe all the other issues i've found in the SSA engine i one post, it will prevent creating too much posts.
Expected result are played on PC with MediaPlayerClassicHomeCinema + Directvobsub.
Problem a :
- File with video only (no audio) almost unplayable with subtitles, and either only the first subtitle is displayed, either no subtitles are displayed.
To provide samples (for my other device) i sometimes use a small mkv video file (wich don't have audio), on wich i put subtitles.
This file (around 5MB), video only, plays perfectly fine on Boxee.
The same file, added subtitle track and fonts (around 45MB), is almost unplayable on Boxee.
This file will be called Sample_45 in the rest of the post.
If (like on my other post), an ftp access is granted to me, i can provide the files.
Problem b :
Some issues in SSA engine, with drawing features.
In the picture provided, you can see, for the 1rst case, that the drawing behind "Animation Number 008" is incorect, and a little messy.
For the 2nd case, it's more complex.
We first can be seen that the "Maximum speed" of right pannel is missing.
Now, here the "tricky problem". On the Boxee result, we can see circles drown, and not on the PC version.
The tricky problem is that i think that the actual Directvobsub version i have is a little broken for this specific case... Because, i think remembering with a previous version i add some times ago (version i don't still have), on PC, result on the pannel was "perfect". The kanji on the back wasn't visible, and only the "5" on a white background was displayed. Display result on PC wasn't a mess of the "5" and the kanji like it's now.
I provided in attach file the SSA file.
Sample : More tricky. The Sample_45 could be used, if problem to play it on Boxee is solved. The Boxee pictures i've taken are made playing on Boxee the original full file of 1.5GB. If you realy realy realy realy want it and grant me an ftp acess, i can provide the file...
Problem c :
Accuracy timing issue.
The accuracy of display timing is sometime a little off. It's obviously visible when there is subtitles which are for text on screen, scene change, but subtitles stay displayed a few frames more. It's "shocking", and higly visible, because even if it's only for a few frames, text displayed if obviously out of place. When played on PC, everything is perfectly fine, so the original timing of the subtitle file is fine.
Sample : Still the same problem. Either Sample_45 can be played properly and used, either the 1.5GB file...

I have seen problems B and C over a lot of different files (all MKV and with ASS subtitle).
On problem B i have only one thing to say, maximun speed is not displayed becausa is hidden by the square that supposed to hidden the japanese script, something wrong with z axis or something about the right order for displaying the subtitle.
The "O" is for real a error by boxee box in loading the font, that's supposed to be a circle from a symbols font needed for covering the Kanji inside the warning sign.
On this matter sometimes I see that some embedded fonts are not loaded and shown as jibberish or square.
On problem C is not a issue of wrong timing, after a lot of pain I was successful and I had freezed the image exactly on a change scene but the subtitles gone away immediatly in the moment I paused.
It seem that the engine is a bit late at showing the rendered subtitle. Rarely the subtitle is shown really late, it seem to happen when is the first time that a font is used.
I don't have had any case that apply at problem A.

I've add another problem. Don't realy know if it's a font issue, or a drawing issue.
If you take the BOXEE-9333_2 zip file, you'll find pictures of result and expected, and the SSA file.
If realy needed and provide me ftp to, file can be uploaded (650MB).
If you take a look at the BOXEE-9333_Result_c1 and BOXEE-9333_Result_c2 pictures, you'll see that the 1rst and second lines are displayed properly. But, as soon as the third line and all the others are displayed, result becomes totaly messed up as can be seen on BOXEE-9333_Result_c3 picture. The picture BOXEE-9333_Expected_c show what it should be.

BOXEE-9322 has been closed because of duplicate of this one, except that the problem described in BOXEE-9322 is NOT described here, that was because i've called it OTHER issues.
Nevertheless, in that case, I put here the description of the problem i've described inBOXEE-9322 here :
SSA engine is not handling the Field1 parameter correctly of Dialoge Event, resulting in wrong display result.
Script :
Dialogue: 0,0:00:07.77,0:00:08.77,Sign (Over),,0000,0000,0000,,{\bord2\be4}Airspace above Russia
Dialogue: 1,0:00:07.77,0:00:08.77,Sign,,0000,0000,0000,,Airspace above Russia
SSA Spec :
5. Dialogue event lines, [Events] section
These contain the subtitle text, their timings, and how it should be displayed.
The fields which appear in each Dialogue line are defined by a Format: line, which must appear before any events in the section. The format line specifies how SSA will interpret all following Event lines. The field names must be spelled correctly, and are as follows:
Marked, Start, End, Style, Name, MarginL, MarginR, MarginV, Effect, Text
The last field will always be the Text field, so that it can contain commas. The format line allows new fields to be added to the script format in future, and yet allow old versions of the software to read the fields it recognises - even if the field order is changed.
Field 1: Marked
Marked=0 means the line is not shown as "marked" in SSA.
Marked=1 means the line is shown as "marked" in SSA.
Field 1: Layer (any integer)
Subtitles having different layer number will be ignored during the collusion detection.
Higher numbered layers will be drawn over the lower numbered.
Field 2: Start
Start Time of the Event, in 0:00:00:00 format ie. Hrs:Mins:Secs:hundredths. This is the time elapsed during script playback at which the text will appear onscreen. Note that there is a single digit for the hours!

I've made some tests with FW 1.2.1.20339, some improvements in subtitles
Problem of incorrect handling of field1 solved. Nevertheless, there is a very little minor issue when this is combined with a karaoke text, this specific problem can be considered solved.
Subtitles going out of video frame for 4/3 video : Not solved.
Z/layer position : Some seems solved (the "maximium speed limit" of 1rst post is solved).
Timing accuracy : Seems a little better, but still some issues. Maybe there is here an hardware/resource limitation wich prevent the possibility of more timing accuracy for subtitles.
Problems with drawing reported in post 1 : Still present.
Font issue described in post 3 is still present. Do you want the file to investigate ? (a little big, around 1GB).
