Description

I noticed that playing trailers from HDTrailers load really slow compaired to youtube even 480p takes awhile. I have the boxee box directly connected to a gateway modem.

Brian,
these trailers are not located on boxee servers,
these are direct video streams (not flash) from hdtrailers,
this might be a bandwidth issue, please check your bandwidth to http://www.hd-trailers.net/.

I have to agree with Brian. The UI is fantastic for trailers, I like this addition, but my trailers are buffering very slowly compared to the likes of youtube. For reference, my connection is ~20Mbps down speed.

some load immediately with no issues for both 1080 & 720 streams (Hanna) - Some experience major buffering to the point its almost unwatchable (The King's Speech)

Guys I've assigned this issue to me.

Please help by identifying a pattern for those "bad" sources (e.g. - domain X streams are lousy, domain Y rocks) or by supplying me with a list of movie, trailer name, and resolution) of slow/good trailers (indicate if the source is good or not).

I'll make sure to skip them when collecting from hdtrailers.

The trailers (mp4 over http) load slow on boxee vs normal (firefox) browser w/ quick time.

I have experienced the same - 480P no problem, but 720 and 1080 buffer constantly from some sources. I have 30Mb cable internet, BBox is connected with Powerline plugs which stream 1080P internally no problem, so don't think this is a problem with bandwidth.

can this be made public now the trailers feature has been released. non-EA users are complaining about this issue on the forum and it would be helpful if they could comment and vote here.

I changed my DNS servers in my router to the recommended ones after using NameBench. I am on a FiOS 35mb/s connectin. I only watch the 1080P trailers and have like this since it was implemented. Having the trailer available with many of my Bd ISOs is nice.

 Prior to the DNS change it would take a few seconds for the trailers to start and sometimes longer. Now the trailers pop right up and typically start right away.

i dont this is an issue of "bad sources"..... boxee typically seems to make poor use of the available bandwidth in any given situation. I find that lots of online content from a variety of sources, apps, or indeed direct from the boxee browser buffers more on the box than when tested on another device on the same network, at the same time (not simultaneously obviously).

I think this is a wider issue with the box than just "the trailers load slow".

potentially because this is a wider issue than just the trailers.... i think boxee uses its WAN connection very inefficiently.

This existed in the previous 1.5 builds. The built in trailers section still has buffering issues after the box has been powered on for some time. In 720p and 1080p the trailers will play for 10 seconds or so, then buffer and stutter. Yahoo is one source, not sure of the other. Tin Tin trailer and Ghost Protocol trailers were tested. If you go to the trailers section right when the Box first boots up, there is no buffering problems in 720p. If the box has been on for some time, then you run into these buffering issues where it will buffer then start to advance in a jerky delayed fashion. My download speed is 25mb, so that can be ruled out.

Ami Ben-David - I guess my point is, trailers seems to work fine on that app and on the AOL app. Maybe partner with sources that are reliable. If you have the Trailers as a feature and it doesn`t work a good portion of the time, then people will complain.

My Box suffers with this too - it is almost impossible to watch the trailers, even though most other content loads up fine. A shame because this is one of the best features that sets boxee apart from other viewing platforms...

I also have this issue. The trailer starts fast, plays for maybe 10 seconds, then starts to studder for a a few seconds before it stops and begins to buffer for 10-15 sek. Then it repeats. I have seen that one of the sources was Yahoo, not sure about the others.
This was the "wow" feature of Boxie. Hope it will be fixed : (

Same here... Is it possible to add own trailer links to movies? It seems that boxee box is ignoring <trailer></trailer> from my movie.nfo files...

They won`t let us link our own trailers with .NFO files , but push the Yahoo trailers down your thoat because they probably catch money from Yahoo and the other trailer service company.
But won`t even fix it when it buffers like hell. :(
