Regression SP3: MP4 Streaming - No audio and choppy playback

This is a regression bug for the new SP3 1.0.3.17064 firmware.
It has its origins at a previous problem with mp4 stream playback seen on http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-7268 with SP1/SP2 where a stream started repeated buffering every 1 to 2 minutes.

The new firmware RC2 SP3 1.0.3.17064 firmware does play the mp4 stream without continuous buffering, but now after an initial 4 minutes of seemingly fine playback the audio drops and video playback gets choppy.
Looking at the boxee log it seems that after 4 minutes the cpu load spikes to 100% and the box is experiencing the following errors:
CDVDPlayerAudio:: Discontinuity - was:276137012.639422, should be:275504761.904762, error:-632250.734660
