Boxee can't access Drobo NAS devices - "Operation not permitted"

Jonathan Gilbert added a comment - 16/Jan/11 12:39 PM Trying to navigate through network shares on the DroboFS and it gives me a "Loading Error: Could not access file, directory, or device." As mentioned above, allowing "everyone" access on the Drobo does not help, nor does entering the IP with username/password manually. I bought the Boxee Box specifically to stream my movies stored on the Drobo and have yet to use it for its intended purpose.

Paul Pieper added a comment - 17/Jan/11 5:38 PM I had a made a request to Boxee Support (#23082 Boxee Box unable to connect to Shares on Drobo-FS) describing the situation and uploaded my logs there; if you can't access them please let me know and I will provide them to you. The title describes the issue very accurately: I can't access local shares on my Drobo-FS. The Boxee Box recognizes the Drobo-FS, however I am not able to access the shares and when I try to scan for media I get "Error Operation not permitted". When I try to access the shares via the Files menu, I get "Loading Error Could not access file, directory or device". I have read the Forums and as such I have the latest firmware and hardware for both the Boxee Box and the Drobo-FS (I can provide the version numbers on the FS if it will help). I don't know if it relates to permissions, but I have rebooted both systems and I have set my permissions to Everyone, I have entered the Admin credentials, I have also created a user specifically for the Boxee but also with no success. I have also tried to manually enter the IP address for the Drobo-FS as well as the IP addresses for the individual shares. I get the same error (i.e. Operation no permitted). I have successfully run the Boxee software on both Windows and Mac operating systems with no issues whatsoever, which is what prompted me to buy the box in the first place. This is entirely related to the D-Link version. Keep in mind that I am Canadian so have crap for online content. The only purpose that this box serves for me is to stream local media to my TV so what I have right now is a nice looking $200 paperweight until this is resolved. The box has not been powered on since I tried the above mentioned permutations. Based on my the local electronic store's policy I have 30 days to return the product which means you have less than 20 days to restore my faith. Please help and/or let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

Tony Davenport added a comment - 18/Jan/11 5:53 AM My DroboFS is working fine with the Boxee Box and always has through all firmware version. Are you definitely running the latest DroboFS firmware (1.0.5)? Have you tried connecting the DroboFS directly to the ethernet port of the Boxee? It might be some other network issue.

In the forum thread you'll see the steps people have taken, firmware upgrades to everything, wired, wireless, mixed, different permission combinations, different usernames, no username, restarting boxee, restarting drobo, disabling drobo apps, deleting drobo apps. Would be really good to get to the bottom of what the difference between Boxee Boxes that work and ones that don't.

Please attach a Debug log to this issue. Settings > System > Debug > Debug Level = Debug ReStart Boxee, and after reproducing the problem, get the log and attach it to this issue. Jonathan Gilbert added a comment - 05/Apr/11 7:09 PM My issue connecting to the DroboFS ended-up being a problem with my router. I made a CAT5 cross-over cable and attached the Boxee Box directly to the Drobo and was able to see my local files. My router's software interface said it was using the most updated firmware, but their website showed that there was a newer firmware available. After I downloaded the latest firmware for the router and updated it, I was able to see my local files on the Drobo, using the Boxee Box, connected through the router.

I could not reproduce your issue using 1.1.1.19092 2. please attach DEBUG logs to this issue. 3. avoid completely adding the root folder of the NAS as a shared directory. instead add a nested folder inside the NAS as a File Source to Boxee.
