Description

Seeking in videos is not supported in the BBC iplayer app.

Also when you press the 'select' button the progress timer resets to zero so there is no way of knowing how far a show has progressed unless you select the arrow option and move it!

Also when you want to go to another point in the video, on every HD video on iPlayer I have tried it using the arrow option and selecting a different position on the iplayer progress bar it does not work. Why can't the left or right buttons be pressed/held and allow seeking instead of getting a message saying seeking isn't supported?

Also when manually seeking a video using the arrow option as previously mentioned in my experience this does not work for HD videos, but when I go back to a page to view the standard video, the Boxee altogether has hung every time while loading the page.

To clarify.

I have launched the BBC iPlayer app and I have selected a programme which loads the SD version of the video in the Boxee browser. I have then selected to watch in HD which loads another page with the HD version.

Pressing the right or left arrows brings up the message that seeking isn't supported. The video cannot be paused either. Seeking a video using the right or left buttons should be supported.

When selecting the arrow icon, and navigate to the iPlayer progress bar to change position of the video, the audio will continue but the video will freeze.

When the back option is selected to load the previous page with the SD video, while loading the entire Boxee Box will hang and the Boxee Box has to be turned on and off again.

The Boxee Box will also hang when loading any iPlayer page. This doesn't happen all the time but its really annoying that the Boxee Box has to be turned off and loaded again.

Just making link between this this issue to a similar issue http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-7814 bi-directional. I've never encountered the boxee box hanging when loading an iPlayer page, sometimes it has failed to load the page fully, but exiting the browser and re-starting it allows it to fully load. I've not yet noticed a correlation between the ability to seek in a video and it being in HD or not - I've never been able to seek in a video (using the iPlayer's own controls) on iPlayer and have the video stream correctly resume. It's this that leads me to conclude it's an issue with the flash player build.

firmware version 1.03.17064 the Boxee Box no longer hangs in the situation described originaly, however when navigating to other iPlayer pages at times they can load really slow and still cause the Boxee Box to hang however this now seems to be a rare occurence.

The only other issue is that seeking in videos isn't supported using the Boxee Box controls, the progress timer restarts from zero when pressing the middle button on the Boxee remote. It would be ideal if iPlayer videos behaved like videos on the YouTube website.

Using the iPlayer controls to manually seek still results in the video freezing but audio continuing.

None of the updates helped with my iPlayer experience, I can only browse the App, but I can't get anything to play, it always hangs. I have to restart the box every time.

BBC have announced a new version of the BBC media player.

I believe BBC iPlayer will use this new version soon.

"I am pleased to announce that after months of hard work by the BBC Media Playout Team we've completely rewritten the BBC Media Player and released it onto the BBC News, Sport and Weather sites. In coming weeks we'll be rolling the player out across the whole of BBC Online to enable smoother, better quality playback experience for users."

Went to to the BBC sport website and played videos on the Boxee Box Boxee Browser. Manual seeking worked fine. No seeking or pausing using Boxee controls though.
