That sounds like it could be a year away or more? Can you explain to the users please Yuval? Thanks
My 3 TB drive is now a paper weight. You should inform potential and existing customers.
Your team needs to make this a priority instead of delaying it till future releases. It only takes one person to spread such a fact that the boxee box does not support 3TB drives and who knows how many potential customers you guys may lose to brands like Xtreamer etc
I have stopped supporting Boxee COMPLETELY. I'm not giving bad PR, but I'm waiting to see what this miraculous upgrade will be like / (divided) by the time that it took to come out = whether I'm going to continue to support Boxee & the WebTV idea or whether decide it's a Chimera that D-Link can't fulfill. Since Boxee's Advertisement doesn't exist - my clan of many followers is paying the bills. Petty threats eh, pitiful that it's come to this to hope that this issue gets resolved.
Ah well... This post will probably get deleted anyways, it's just salt on a wound to see that this issue keeps on getting reported, linked together, and lumped into a "resolved" category, meanwhile it's not solved because when I plug in my 2 - 3TB drives they don't work... Makes me wonder how truthful their Issue Report Vs. Solved graphs and reports is.
-Losing hope & listening to Bruce Springsteen for comfort
Apparently Intel will be pulling out of the smartTV game. Will this affect Boxee Box in any way- specifically this issue? Any update on this issue?
There's a workaround (that I'm using successfully with a WD 3TB) scattered through the pages of the Boxee Forum below for anyone looking for a short term fix. YUVAL TAL - Have you seen this/experimented with it? What do you think about it?

It is a kernel issue and cannot be fixed via a small incremental release (i.e. a few lines of code)
What timeline is possible to achive to fix this?
This task is marked as solved. Does this mean that the last FW release contains the fix so that we can use 3/4TB hard drives?
see haveringcottage comment above.
We're at version 1.2.1 now and the new beta is 1.2.2 so we just have to hang tight through
1.2.2 -> 1.2.3 -> 1.2.4 -> 1.2.5 ->1.2.6 ->1.2.7 ->1.2.8 ->1.2.9 ->1.3.0 ->1.3.1 ->1.3.2 ->1.3.3 ->1.3.4 ->1.3.5 ->1.3.6 ->1.3.7 ->1.3.8 ->1.3.9 ->1.4.0 ->1.4.1 ->1.4.2 ->1.4.3 ->1.4.4 ->1.4.5 ->1.4.6 ->1.4.7 ->1.4.8 &1.4.9
At ~6 months per release we're only looking at 14 years or so... :-P
Perhaps I'll just go out and get a Synology NAS w/10TB, a bottle of Jim Bean, and try to forget about this mess. It'll be paid off before V1.5 gets released, probably before V1.2.2 comes out. :-P
This is a major issue for many people (see number of commenters here + number of duplicated issue threads)
Please re-open this issue until it is actually resolved.
the issue IS resolved in a future public release of boxee, but that just hasnt been released to the general public yet. As far as this JIRA is concerned, the issue should be marked as resolved.
(sad to see another wave of customer complaints Coming up after xmas when these new user discover their bigger HDs don't work with boxee)
One of the most common hard disks on the market right now does not work with Boxee. Period. I mean christ they are actually sitting next to each other at one of the computer store's here.
Why wasn't this a P1 and why wasn't this fixed 6 months ago when the kernel was made available ?
I have the Boxee directly hooked to the SeaGate 3 TB hard drive.
During movie playback, it just stops and goes back to the original Boxee screen play list.
Is there any hope with this.....or is this the issue people are running into as above?
Would a 2TB hard drive work in place of the 3TB?
Any help is appreciated.
(a) 3TB HDDs, and,
(b) 4TB HDDS
Just fix the problem. Rip out the third party software making the problem if necessary. Just fix it.
But i have to ask you this...
Has this issue gone up the chain of command? (Excuse the military expression)
I only ask because I don’t feel it’s fair for all of us to be beating on you alone, why hasn’t someone higher up within Boxee spoken on this issue. I mean if Steve Jobs had this issue in his camp he would have probably sat next to his technicians till the issue was fixed..giving them a dirty look to help motivate them to find the solution
Its funny the thread title says 3TB but I’ve already got 2 new 4TB’s...and also in the lifespan of this thread Thailand had to deal with major floods which greatly effected hard drive production from OCT 11 till JAN 12…they are all back on their feet with 4TB’s in heavy production as I type this…and yet this issue still remains…pity
Fixed in the context of JIRA means that the developers have added a solution for this issue to the code base that is used to create firmware for the Boxee Box. It doesn't mean that these fixes are immediately released to the public in the form of a release. The next firmware release that will be build will most likely incorporate this fix, but for that release build more issue fixes will need to be incorporated.
I know it sucks that you see that your issue has been fixed by the Devs, but release build can't be made on the basis of single fixes (unless they are real showstoppers, but this wasn't a showstopper) because that would mean that we would be subjected to daily or hourly firmware updates!
If you look at the Fix Version/s field you can see a link behind the label and when you click on that you will see which issues need to be fixed for that release. If they are all done (or the unfinished ones are pushed to a future release) then a release build will be made (probably after a few beta releases).
Yeah, I can't wait for this to be resolved because my 9.4 zettabyte drive is just sitting on a shelf collecting dust right now. lol!
This issue used to burn me but it just pushed me to get a NAS and it was for the best. Having a NAS is a solid investment for any cable-cutter because it can just run in the background as a silent downloader, readily supply Boxee and XBMC with all your media, have RAID & backup protection. Imagine if that USB drive with 3TB of your content failed?
Got the NAS, bottle of Jim Bean, sold the WD 3TB drive for $20 less than what I paid for after 1 year of usage. Paid it all off before the Kernel Update Fix came out. Good Riddance. Thank you for indirectly making me do the inevitable Boxee, I know I give you guys a hard time and probably not in your good books :-)
oh.. and still not fixed either..
An update by the Boxee crew as to when we might _actually_ see large HDD support would be greatly appreciated!
