OSD: Custom Video Size Does Not Work Anymore. Still not fixed in latest release

Marcel Hass [Boxee] added a comment - 28/Feb/12 4:29 AM Sorry this was removed as this feature was not working in 1.5 with the changes that where made ,you can adjust the movie to ,Normal,Zoom ,4:3, 14:9. 16:9 and original size which caters for most Movies however i understand that there are some movies that you will still have the black bars on the top or side. What view mode are you missing with your movies? 2.35? 21:9 ? so we can look to see if this is possible to add.

Plufsplufs added a comment - 28/Feb/12 5:00 AM I would like to be be able to stretch any movie to fit and completely fill the screen of my 16:9 TV, independently of the original format. The possibility to zoom the movie to just get rid of the black borders on the top/bottom isn´t exactly the same as I see it.

Mo Volans added a comment - 28/Feb/12 6:30 AM This issue was marked as fixed here .... http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-12395 And now it's just been totally removed!! Thats not a fix. Please put this feature back it was very useful, now many of my files are stuck with small black bars and the view mode has now effect. This was the only way to fix the problem in many situations.

Mo Volans added a comment - 28/Feb/12 11:33 AM Hi Marcel, Just to be clear it's not the extra ratios we want its the ability to zoom to any size (custom) that has disappeared. Will you be fixing it and putting it back? It's still present in the mac and windows versions as far as I can tell.

Jack Sheets added a comment - 28/Feb/12 5:07 PM I'm shocked at this response to the ticket! OMG! How can you say a ticket is fixed just by closing it and doing nothing. You can say "closed, unresolved", "Closed, not wasting my time", "closed, I don't know how to fix it", "closed, I don't care", or any number of things. But you can't just say fixed and close the ticket. That is obsurd! And particularly on an issue that once worked but through forced updates that your customers don't have a say so about has been broken. You can't just close the ticket and not worry about it. Customers paid good money for a box with that feature, then it suddenly just disappears! Seriously!

It happened before with the "volume control" removal. I don't get it. You are ahead in the this industry sector, blunders like these surely make users to rethink alternatives. This is so annoying.

(can you explain what each one should do?) I only updated my Boxee Box to the new version because you forced me to do it, there is NO OPTION to reject the update, no way to keep the old firmware with the custom zoom. If there is a option let me know, please, until you solve the problem of course... Marcel, adding more view modes like 2.35? 21:9? could be a "fix" (if you make it works with movies ripped with MakeMKV) but I think it doesn't either the best or the definitive alternative. First because the modes boxee box has today doesn't work for most of my videos so these new modes wouldn't either, second I think you will receive lots of request to adding more e more modes. Just for your understanding (boxee staff): I bought the boxee box because I could use the custom zoom to fill the screen (I hate watching movies with black strips, and my 50" Plasma TV doesn't have a suitable alternative for it), I have installed the windows version and used it before buying the box to see if it has what I want and I was glad with the options, so I sold my good Asus O!PLAY (it has the zoom option in the remote controller) and bought this boxee box. I'm not happy with this anymore... To bring it to a conclusion, I bought this Boxee Box because the good features, the custom zoom is the MOST important for me, so you don't have the right to remove it, because people bought it to use the features it has at that moment, if you add features ok, but not remove, if you are not able to solve the problems with features that are working in previous version, leave it untouchable until you have the solution! Paulo Kar added a comment - 02/Mar/12 2:29 PM This might be a low value feature to some people, but for me it makes difference. The custom zoom is one key point that makes me choose Boxee instead other similar players. With all respect, I'd appreciate some efforts to get it back.

Pieter-Jan Kuyten added a comment - 06/Mar/12 4:01 AM It always worked perfectly in the 1.0.x - 1.2.x versions of the firmware, so the issue seems to be that you don't know how to integrate this feature in the new 1.5.x GUI. That is something you will have to figure out, but it is no reason to remove this extremely useful feature. Please bring this feature back!

tronbrain added a comment - 11/Apr/12 6:34 PM @Marcel - when you re-implement this feature, it might be a good idea to throw in a few of those oddball ratios you mention above, like 2.35:1 or 21:9. But mostly, there are videos with black bars on either the vertical or horizontal edges that people are looking to eliminate. They were cropping the video with the custom zoom. No ratio you give as an option is going to be able to do that.
