Audio out of sync on .AVI containers

D.Souza added a comment - 29/Jan/12 1:48 PM Checking the mediainfo output, the line below called my attention: "Interleave, preload duration : 138 ms" I am wondering if the problem is that Boxee is ignoring this information, thus causing the audio to be out-of-sync for the exact amount as specified in this field.

D.Souza added a comment - 30/Jan/12 8:14 PM File "[ BOXEE-12475 ] Bones.S04E23.The Girl in the Mask.avi" being uploaded (the upload should be finished in about 30 min from now). D.Souza added a comment - 31/Jan/12 8:08 PM Thanks for checking this. The lack of sync is pretty subtle. It is more like a lipsynch issue than an out-of-sync. Please adjust the audio delay in the Boxee playback menu to -0.15 that you will notice that the audio will be better recognized with the characters' lips when they talk. Did you have the chance to take a look how Boxee is handling the "Interleave / Preload Duration" property from the AVI container? Once again thanks!

D.Souza added a comment - 06/Feb/12 7:31 PM Dear BOXEE DEVELOPERS: I am *pretty sure* that this problem happens because Boxee seems to be *ignoring* the parameter "Interleave, preload duration" from the AVI container. This parameter essentially specifies the delay between the audio and video tracks. So the user experience will vary according to the value of this field in some specific AVI file. For example, in my case, I noticed a small lip-sync issue with an AVI with a value of 138ms in the "Interleave, preload duration" property in the AVI container. I tested another file which hand only 24ms in the "Interleave, preload duration" property, and the lip-sync was virtually non-existent. So I urge you to check the source code that handles the metadata containter, and possibly you will find a bug (or missing code) for correctly observing this property. FOR ALL USERS HAVING THIS ISSUE: please download "MediaInfo"( http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en ) and check the value of the "Interleave, preload duration" property of the AVI files you are having issues with audio out-of-sync and report here your values.
