Description


Mediafly allows people to cook up their own RSS - on the Mediafly website you login and select the podcasts you like.
You then get a private RSS feed which lists the casts in order of newness. If a new cast is ready, its automatically added to the list.
This is feature much needed, and since its a normal RSS feed you can just use it in Boxees RSS app - this has mostly worked well, there have been some where the box has refused to play mp3s'- well after the latest update it seems its almost everything it doesn't play from the mediafly feed - the videos seem to work, but almost all of the mp3s don't (is it because is a mixed feed?) - HOWEVER, if you subscribe to the individual feed, then it works.

http://onair.mediafly.com/Podcasts/Episodes/Kermode_Cowboys_and_Aliens_12_Aug_11/Media/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/kermode_20110812-1400a.mp3

(The x's are my private key which I'm not going to list)

However, in Firefly both links will save out the same MP3 file.

But whilst the first link plays in the RSS feed the second produces the message about an incompatible file.

Btw, whilst the box will stream the BBC mp3 file, it won't tell you the duration and you can't search

Further info: Drivecast provides a similar service which doesn't cause boxee box a problem - perhaps your buffer for URL's is too small and can't fit entire link?

i cannot find the option to register on mediafly and create my own rss feed.

I would prefer if you could make your own, however if that proves impossible I'll see if I wan can something.

But their site isn't that userfriendly, the specific site is:

http://onair.mediafly.com/Welcome

In the upper right corner there is "sign up" link.
When you are registered and logged in and back a the front page (the one above), at the bottom there is a link called "Add Your RSS Feeds" - this is their "wizard" you click it an then paste in direct RSS links.

Once you have added several different feeds, you then go to

http://onair.mediafly.com/MyShows

Where you'll see the shows you have subscribed to. At the very bottom of that page to the right there is the traditional RSS symbol (the orange one with 3 white arcs) - this is the link to your own personalized RSS feed composed of all the other feeds you entered, with the most recent entries at the top.

And this is the feed which causes problems for Boxee Box.
