I have a ticket open for early access (BOXEE-11913), but I think the now-closed
is on the right track.
CPU usage on 126.96.36.19950 is much lower than any of the newer firmwares. When the video bitrate jumps, i can see the buffer drop & CPU usage rise to 85-90%. The buffer then never recovers (even at a lower bitrate), but drops slowly to 0, then a buffer & repeat. Firmware 188.8.131.5250 does not have the buffering on any content.
The only other possible cause I've seen is that the fps usually jumps from 23.9xx to 24.xxx (usually 24.4xx) just before a buffer. Could it be a cadence detection issue that is throwing an error & bogging the system?
I'm using a non-dedicated Win7 x64 PC, older C2D mobile (1.83ghz), 2GB RAM, WD Green drives (1.5 & 2 TB) via a PCI expander card(3 drives, JBOD). SMB via 1Gbps router & 100Mbps switch (bypassing switch has no effect, direct to router has no effect, I made a 125' patch cable to test). I've done the registry changes recommended in the boxee forums (needed this on the 1.x firmware to eliminate buffering when the box arrived, no problems until after 1.2.xxx came out)
I can feed 2 laptops a blueray stream concurrently w/o any buffering wired OR with random, less-frequent buffering via wireless. I tried viewing on the PC the HDs are housed & I have problems streaming to both laptops - HD priority issue I assume.
I've been struggling with this for 6+ months. It would be nice to see BOXEE make some type of comments.
