regression: playback audio offset increment is now too large

Description

The audio offset increments have changed from 25 milliseconds (in version 1.1.2.19250) to 250 milliseconds in the two 1.2 rc versions.

For me this is unusable, I need an offset of 175ms, and the poster of BOXEE-7188 uses an offset of 50ms.

I've just realised this too!! Most of my videos need to be set to an offset of -150ms (and some to -100ms) now it is impossible with this new update. All videos that I had previously altered before the update are listed as -0.15 ms, so they work fine. but as I'm adding new videos I can only alter them in 0.25 second increments. Why has this been altered to reduce user functionality? I haven't heard anybody complaining about it, so why try and fix it?

Please can this be changed back to how it was as soon as possible?? A previously great feature has now been made totally ineffective for no good reason! Please give us back the options which have been taken away. I am now going to have to try to downgrade my box back to the old firmware as any new videos I add are all going to be out of sync with my speakers.

Please can we have this returned very, very soon in a new bug fix update!? This can't wait 3 months for the next major update as this is going to cause all kind of problems to people who use optical cables into amps but experience slight syncing issues. Also, please give us the option to make all videos use the same delay as standard so that people who are affected by this problem don't have to go in and manually change each and every video in our collections.

I really like Damon's idea of a global audio offset setting. Taking it a bit further, setting the global audio offset per audio output (hdmi, optical etc...) would make it ultimate.

And yeah, three months is way too long to wait for a fix.

Most people are able to detect a .100 second sync difference, so adjustments in .250 aren't going to help except on very rare circumstances where the offset is "just right."

Please set this back to .025 or at the very highest, .050

I have a workaround for this, but it’s a very tedious way of keeping your videos in sync.

I wait until I have a reasonable sized batch of new videos to add to my library. Once added I shutdown the box and disconnect it from the internet. I then download the old (working) firmware onto the root directory of a USB stick. Use this link for the previous firmware: http://dl.boxee.tv/version/dlink.dsm380/1.1.2.19250/boxee.iso
Boot up the box into service mode by keeping the power button pressed down for around 10 seconds, then when in the service mode menu put in the USB stick and wait a couple of seconds for it to be recognised. Then select Upgrade from USB. The old firmware will then be installed.
Once fully installed and booted back into boxee you can then go in and manually adjust each of your newly added videos to their desired audio delay settings.
After you have finished this process you are free to connect the box back to the internet again and the newest firmware will begin to automatically download. Update back to the newest firmware and the audio delay times which you just inputted will be remembered and your new videos will now all play correctly on the current firmware.

Obviously this is a crazy and very convoluted way of getting past this problem, but it’s the only solution I can think of until they return this functionality back to us.

The AudioDelay(Minus/Plus) actions still effect a 25 millisecond decrement/increment. So I changed the 'keyboard.xml' to map 'a', 's' and 'd' to the AudioDelayMinus, AudioDelayPlus and AudioDelay actions respectively.

This work great, but with just that change there is no feedback to the user about how much offset has been applied.

To add user feedback I adapted the 'DialogSlider.xml' from the confluence skin of the XBMC source distro. Which makes everything just dandy. I've put this in the attachment 'AudioOffsetFix.tar.gz'.

To the others waiting for a proper fix, you can only really use my fix if you happen to have root on your Boxee Box.

Why the increments for audio offset has been changed to as much as 250 milliseconds, or indeed at all, is just impossible to understand. Things were working absolutely perfectly, and now they work poorly. Besides, the old slider was much more user friendly than the up/down selections now. Please, change things back the way they were, this is just ridiculous.
